Philip Stein, August 2, 1941 to June 24, 2004, was the Founder and Principal Consultant for the firm. During his lifetime, he directed most of the consulting assignments and teaching activities.

One of the most powerful legacies of the firm is the availability of a group of extraordinarily talented and experienced consultants and associates, allowing Measurement.com to provide services for beyond the technical capabilities of any single individual. Over the years we assembled many unique teams to address diverse requirements in a wide range of business, scientific, manufacturing, and engineering areas.

The following are brief biographies of our principals and most frequently consulted associates. Many others are also available for appropriate assignments.

Carole Armel

Ms. Armel is a management and process consultant with more than twenty years of experience in organization development and training. She specializes in organization development (particularly the use of matrix management techniques), design of training, and facilitation of cross-sectoral work groups Using a wide range of experience in process-oriented techniques, Ms. Armel provides clients with services and products including organization development, goals and objectives identification, problem identification, and solution development and implementation including training. Ms. Armel serves as the staff organization and process consultant. She co-authored the design and development of a training course Critical Thinking - Creative Thinking, and was the facilitator at the delivery of the course for several clients.

Jonah Stein

Mr. Stein spent five years as a web consultant and partner in adventmedia.com. as the account manager and conceptual lead for all of our clients. In that capacity, he was responsible for designing, planning and executing the web vision of companies ranging from venture funded startups to a division of Fortune 100 companies. He led projects ranging from creating feature specifications, information architecture and user interface design to content development, search engine optimization and banner campaigns. In an era when venture capitalists were pouring money like chum into the feeding frenzy of the dotcom boom, adventmedia built functional websites with measurable ROI from concept to profitable entities.

In 2001, Mr. Stein joined one of his most profitable clients and spent the next five years as the Director of Online Marketing and Business Development for PsPrint. During his tenure, the company grew from $3 million in revenue in 2001 to a projected $25 million in 2006. In addition to helping direct the company from a modestly functional ecommerce site into the most sophisticated site in the industry, he was responsible for initiating, designing, implementing and managing all aspects online marketing including CPM, CPC and SEO.

Grace Duffy

Grace L. Duffy Grace is a private consultant specializing in organizational and process improvement, leadership, quality, customer service and teamwork. She works throughout the U.S. designing and implementing effective systems for business and management success. She is co-author of The Quality Improvement Handbook and The Executive Guide to Improvement and Change. Grace holds a Masters in Business Administration from Georgia State University and a Bachelor's in Archaeology and Anthropology from Brigham Young University. She is an ASQ Certified Quality Manager, Certified Quality Improvement Associate, and Certified Quality Auditor. Grace is a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and Manager of Process Improvement. During her 20 years with IBM, Grace held a series of positions in technical design, services, management and process improvement. She helped design and deliver IBM's Executive Quality training in the late 1980s. She served as a private consultant in organizational design, instructional development and process improvement in the New York metropolitan area. Grace worked with Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC for 10 years as department head for Business, curriculum owner and instructor for Tridentís Quality and Corporate Management programs and as a management and performance consultant for private industry. She was a judge with the South Carolina Governorís Quality Awards. Grace has been an active member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) for 12 years. She is a Fellow of the Society and a Vice President within the ASQ Office of the President.

Thomas A. Pearson

Thomas A. Pearson Thomas A. Pearson is co-founder and Vice President of Automated Technology Associates, Inc. (ATA), an Indianapolis company that provides Predictive Process Management software tools and methodologies for Real-time Operations Management in Manufacturing and Telecommunications. Tom is a recognized expert in the field of Real-time Operational Information systems. He holds US patents for Real-Time Quality Management and Data Base software, designed ATAs Exploratory Quality Control software, and co-authored the Exploratory Quality Control Handbook. Previously, he was Metrology Division Director at Naval Avionics Center, Indianapolis.

Tom's recent professional activities include serving as Executive Chair of the Indianapolis Section and Chair of the national Measurement Quality Division of the American Society for Quality (ASQ); Chair of the Indiana Quality Committee for The Indiana Business Modernization and Technology Corporation, and founding Director of the National Center for Creativity, Inc. Tom received his BA in Physics and Mathematics from University of Indianapolis, and MS in Operations Research from The George Washington University. In addition, Mr. Pearson has designed many real-time automated systems for integrated Operations Management and Quality Improvement for Fortune 100 manufacturing companies. Examples include systems for the worlds largest casting plant (Ford Cleveland Casting), the largest cigarette fabrication facility in the US (Brown & Williamson), a major aerospace/defense manufacturing and assembly division (GE Aerospace), and a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer (Eli Lilly & Company). This new class of system combines the principles of Total Quality, Continuous Improvement, Creative Breakthrough, Dynamic Systems, Operations Management, Operations Research, and Real-time Operations Information to improve team communication, cooperation, coordination, learning, and performance.

Eric Waldbaum

Eric Waldbaum is a skilled chief executive and entrepreneur with a proven record in financial services, computers and automation, organization development, and retailing. He has more than thirty years in corporate development, technology application and transfer, trouble-shooting, negotiation, and planning. His special areas of expertise include management, investment, and marketing, real estate, international finance and operations. He has extensive experience in the applications of computers and data communications for business, and in accounting, internal audit, and tax principles. As a leading member of a small team guiding the food industry's Ad Hoc Committee on the Uniform Grocery Product Code (UPC), he designed, promulgated and guided implementation of the industry standard (bar code) symbol to facilitate automatic scanning by advanced point of sale electronic equipment. He is also expert in understanding and application of techniques in group relations, conflict management, organizational training, counseling of minority groups, in advanced management, including simulation, mathematical forecasting, network analysis, statistics, distribution analysis, and in dealing with corporations, regulatory agencies, cooperatives, private voluntary and non-governmental organizations of all sizes Mr. Waldbaum holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Howard M. Shapiro MD

Howard Shapiro has been involved with clinical and biomedical research applications of physical measurements and computers for over thirty years. He was an author of some of the first publications on multivariate analysis of electrocardiograms, and is now best known for his work in flow cytometry, a method for measuring physical and chemical characteristics of single cells. His book, Practical Flow Cytometry (Wiley-Liss, New York), now in its third edition, is the basic text in this field. Dr. Shapiro received a bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard College and an M. D. degree from New York University, and trained in surgery and medical oncology at New York University and Bellevue Hospitals, the National Cancer Institute, and the University of Arizona. He operates an independent laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and provides consulting and research services, software, and custom-built apparatus to clients in academia, government, and industry.

Dilip Shah

Dilip Shah (ASQ Senior Member) has more than 25 years of industry experience in metrology, electronics, instrumentation, measurement and computer applications of statistics in the Quality Assurance areas. He is well versed in all measurement parameters. He has been employed in various positions with Phillips Electronics (UK), Kodak Ltd. (UK), Instruments Division of Monsanto Corporation, Flexsys America and Alpha Technologies. He is currently a Principal of E = mc3 Solutions, a consulting practice that provides training and consulting solutions in ISO 9000/TS 16949, ISO 17025, measurement and computer applications. He is familiar with many different industries.

Dilip is certified by American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer and Certified Calibration Technician. Dilip volunteers his time with the local Akron-Canton (Ohio) ASQ section where he was the past-chairman (2001-2002). Dilip has been a member of the advisory board of the University of Akron Engineering and Science Technology Division since 1988 and also serves on the A2LA Board of Directors. Dilip also belongs to the Statistics, Automotive, Inspection and Measurement Quality Divisions (Chair 2003-2005 year) of American Society for Quality. Dilip is the co-author of The Metrology Handbook published by the ASQ Quality Press. Dilip participated in the development of ASQ's Certified Calibration Technician exam. Dilip participates actively in the measurement related issues through NCSLI (National Conference of Standards Laboratories International) and the west coast based Measurement Science Conference where he presents session, papers and workshops. Dilip also is a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers). Dilip is the recipient of MQD's 2005 Max J. Unis Award.
